What is a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT)?
Close
A Real Estate Investment Trust (aka REIT) is a company that owns, operates, and/or finances
real estate.
Most REITS are publicly traded on major stock exchanges, but there are some non-listed
and private REITS. Some REITS invest directly in property while others invest in mortgages.
REITS receive special tax considerations and generally pay out higher yields than non-REIT
corporations.
REITs offer individuals a method to invest in a diversified real estate portfolio with only
a modest amount of capital.
On this site we track only the exchange traded REITs.
